Yih-Peng Chiou was born in Taoyuan, Taiwan, in 1969. He received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from National Taiwan University, Taipei, in 1992 and 1998, respectively, both in electrical engineering. From 1999 to 2000, he was with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), where his interest was the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) of dielectric materials. From 2001 to 2003, he was with RSoft Inc., New York, where he acted as a scientist, focusing on the research of modeling techniques and the development of optoelectronic design tools. In February, 2003, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. His research interests are modeling, numerical analysis, and computer aided design (CAD) of optoelectronic problems, which includes optical properties of photonic crystals, optics of nano structures, novel numerical techniques for optoelectronics, and the theory, design, and application of integrated optics and optical communication devices and systems.
